Nepalese migration to Portugal has been a recent and rapidly expanding phenomenon. In 2011, there were about 1,000 Nepalese residing in Portugal, and by 2019, this number had risen significantly to 15,000+ and later to more than 21,000, making them the 11th largest immigrant community in Portugal. Lisbon, with its 11,000-strong Nepalese community, is Portugal’s prime destination for Nepalese immigrants, drawn by the country’s warmth, job prospects, and improved living standards, often sending remittances back home.
